  • Greetings from the Empire State!

    Hello one and all,

I guess the way to start would be to give a few basics. I'm a 51 year old guy of English/Irish heritage but have yet to visit (very ashamed). I live in the western part of New York, Rochester to be exact, with my wife of 24 years, my 18 yr. old daughter (when she's home from college) and our three cats.

I began smoking cigars about 15 years ago, pipes about 12. I've never had a non-Cuban cigar that was as good as or better than the best Cuban cigar I've smoked. That aside, being a US resident, my consumption is predominantly non-Cuban. I'd also mention that I've had far more construction problems with CC's than NC's and there are many NC's that I feel are as good or better than many CC's. So I'm content. In general I look for fuller bodied cigars but enjoy many medium to mild cigars as well.

As to my pipe tobacco preferences I tend toward fuller bodied blends, mostly Virginia/Burley, sometimes English blends (back on them lately). I have a fair collection of mid to lower grade pipes that serve me very well and my Pipe Tobacco Acquisition Disorder (PTAD) sometimes rivals my Cigar Acquisition Disorder (CAD).

As to my other interests, they are legion. The ones that command most of my attention are mycology and foraging in general (season permitting), hunting, fishing, hiking and just about anything that will get me into natural surroundings. My wife and I enjoy movies and the occasional play (our daughter is pursuing a career in theatric arts), we drink occasionally (me more than she) and just spend as much time together as possible, not to say we don't have separate interests.

I imagine more gory details will emerge as time goes by so, at the risk of giving Too Much Information, I'll let this serve as my introduction. I look forward to getting to know you all and hope I have something constructive to add.

Hey there Cristoph, welcome from this side of the pond where cigars are ALL equally expensive and NC's are less sold than CCs. This forum is a great place to be and through this forum i have had the chance to sample a variety of NCs available over that side of the pond and significantly cheaper..

I hope you enjoy your stay here with us, get your posts up beyond 25 and see abouut joining the Stick swaps as and when they take place, a great opportunity to maybe get the odd CC if your lucky in the swap.
