All horses for Courses IMO. Safari and Chrome (+ Opera) are great browsers and see to be making huge strides in the way we browse and how the web should work but for most day to day normal users this doesn't make much difference.
IMO, go for it, install Safari on your Laptop and give it a shot. You have nothing to lose. You're not going to lose much from the other popular browsers if you did use Safari as your day to day browser.
Off tangent time:
For me, I use Firefox as my Primary browser. Firefox does everything I need, but its the plug-in facility that currently keeps this browser top of the roost. Twitterfox and a load of other geek stuff (Nagios Checker, Firebug (haha Deano :grin keeps me using the browser.
In my job I'm usually switching from browser to browser a lot so I see how things develop. But I think I'll stop there :-)
