Chatbox suggestion

How about embedding the chatbox into every page? I don't think people linger very often on the index, so they skip past the chatbox and no conversations start.

Maybe there could be an option for this, with the default setting that the chatbox is always viewable, then people could switch it off if it got on their nerves.

It's certainly possible - I just thought it was a bit cumbersome on every page - and also didn't want the standard forum to suffer (chatbox isn't saveable/searchable etc).

Shall we put it to a vote/poll?

Yeah, but I think the usage is low because people skip past the index page pretty fast . About it being cumbersome, it's true. How about reducing its size from 7 lines to 3? Then if someone wants to shoot their mouth off, they can always go to full screen mode. The important part is to see the top line of the chat, so you can see if someone just recently typed a message.

I suppose it depends if you want to increase the chat or not. Like Deano says, more chat would reduce the number of forum posts, especially for the silly little questions we have. Like.......well take a look at some of my posts

Maybe the chat, within the forum, could be a pop up similar to the 'who's on line' facility? That way, it's unobtrusive, but available for those who want to use it. As they say Martin there's never a silly question mate, but chat's not really the ideal medium as it can't be searched/saved.
