It's a cigar tube not the air lock to space station so the seal is not 100%, but that doesn't matter. You are storing them in a humidified environment, so whatever might leak from the tube is offset by what might leak in.

If the fit is tight, I wouldn't worry about the seal. I prefer these new tubes more, since they fit various lengths of cigars... (to a certain degree)

As this post seems to have been reanimated images.jpeghere's another thought. Cigar manufacturers seems to be moving towards the tubes that are split halfway rather than having a screw cap. Is this just a design affectation and is the seal as good as a screw thread?

Quite interesting post. Just read through it...so many different theory's.

I've recently just bought a few metal and glass tubos,
I just ended up uncapping them and placing them in the humi....

The glass one looked air tight and had a dampened small sponge..however this was a NC though.

Same here. Slung the tubes for my Romeo Churchills once I'd put them in the humi.

Well it appears that the tubed cigars tend to age slower and have better flavour. I imagine the restricted oxygen may slow aging, and the fact they are sealed may also reduce the amount of essential oils lost to the atmosphere, so helping to maintain good flavour.

So I suppose I should stop decanting them, and start placing the sealed tubes directly into the humi. Well I didn't think i would be saying that when I started this thread. Doh!

I had an issue with white mold on a box of tubed R&J Churchills, I've heard that this is more common with tubed cigars than untuned to I took them all out of the tubes, brushed the white mold off and put them in the humidor "untubed" and not had a propel since. Anyone else experienced this with tubes?

Yip I have bought tubes with mold on them but I have also had boxes delivered with mold on them, so dont know if the mold is caused the same way on both but retailers dont check tubes like they do boxes so goes unnoticed a lot more. So more end customers are the ones dealing with cleaning it off.

From my limited experience with tubed sticks, I find well-aged and cared for tubed puros superior to non-tubed puros.

But that's just me.

Me too. The tubes slow down the aging process, allowing ammonia and nicotines to dissipate allowing full scope to the flavours and retaining the depth of flavour.

Min Ron Nee advocates much the same for un-tubed sticks, in that the aging processed can be controlled and slowed by plastic/shrink wrapping boxes and maintaining them at a lower than usual temperature. There are also BOTL who believe that aging can be accelerated by storing boxes at a higher than usual temperature in foil wrap. (The boxes are put through a freezing treatment first before attempting either).

The cigar factories have been putting smokes in tubes for a long time, OK the tubes do make useful transporters, but if as some would have us believe tubes are just a marketing gimmick or some sort of metalic camouflage for poorer sticks then why aren't more vitola tubed? Are the blends for the Boli Tubos No 2 and Petit Coronas the same? To be honest I don't know, but smoke them and you'll notice the Tubos is more intense in flavour and power.

Now, a nice thing about tubos is they have a common factor, and it doesn't matter if they're MAR 13 Upmann Coronas Junior or pre-Embargo Bolivar Churchills, when you buy them you buy them caps ON. If H&F or any of our vendors thought that tubos should be stored with their caps OFF they would either do it or advocate it .... they don't .... and given that some of them have a hundred or so years of experience in storing cigars I think they know what they're doing.

Someone posted earlier that posted that they removed their cigars from tubes because the tubes spoiled the aesthetics of their humidor .... which, if that is the criteria kinda beggars the question why buy a tubed cigar in the first place if you can get an untubed version? If it's just for transportation then that base is covered, Mitch can sell you an inexpensive flexible tube that will carry Demi Tasse or Churchills.

Not often TJ and I agree .... but I'm with the Coro's on this .... keep the caps ON.
