Cuban cigars tend to come in boxes with paper seals but the last NC boxes I bought were vacuum sealed in durable film so my question is how long will they stay in good condition still sealed up?

Some air transfer will take place but it should be negligible even over years and years..... Perhaps decades. I would still just keep it in the same humi anyway if for no other reason that it keeps all of your cigars in one place.Licky Licky before Sticky Sticky. - Puff Scotty 22/03/14

Yep, so long at the integrity of the material holds... Any transfer will be negligible to the point of being inconsequential.Originally posted by JoeyGunz View PostSealed environment the humidity wouldn't be able to drop or rise.Licky Licky before Sticky Sticky. - Puff Scotty 22/03/14

I believe there is a risk of condensation if you suffer significant temp swings. It also depends on the gas inside (a full vacuum would crush the cigars so there is some gas of some sort in there). BTW This is a huge subject with much detailed debate, scince and pseudo science but short answer is 'they should be fine'Originally posted by JoeyGunz View PostSealed environment the humidity wouldn't be able to drop or rise.
...but if they are shot / past their sell-by date you will only find out when you open them.Originally posted by Simon BolivarLittle medical correction there Steve, you will surely die...but not from smoking these

^ this. A very efficient method of condensation and precipitating solutes in my labs is to immediate change the temperature.Originally posted by monkey66 View PostI believe there is a risk of condensation if you suffer significant temp swings. It also depends on the gas inside.
Also, the fact that cigars release gases as they age. Minute amounts but still noticeable.

Personally I would get it off to look at the cigars. The film is meant as a transport aid, but it doesn't always work out, if the cigars were even slightly over-moisturised at sealing stage mould may already be forming .... and you really should look if only to check they're all there.Originally posted by PeeJay View Postthe last NC boxes I bought were vacuum sealed in durable film so my question is how long will they stay in good condition still sealed up?
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!
