Tubed cigars stay fresher and don't shrink this is the test buy 2 cigars say 2 D4s tubed take one out of the tube and leave them in the same humidor
give it say 6 months and see which of the 2 has shrunk.
Every cigar in my humidor thats not tubed has shrunk very slightly compared to the ones in the tubes
the bands on the tubed cigars don't slide up and down where's the untubed ones do the humidity is always between 68% and 69%
temperature varies between 18 and 19 test it yourself and see if you agree with what i've said.
I know keeping cigars in tubes takes up more space but if they look fresher and haven't shrunk i'm not that bothered.

Are shrunken cigars a sign of being kept poorly/something to worry about? I bought an aged box a while ago and most of the bands are very loose.

Conversely the first BHK I took out of its box and took on holiday with me wouldn't go back in the box afterwards as it had swollen slightly. It was transported in a travel humidor too.

If you can splash out on 2 boxes of punch from portugal i'm sure 2 tubed cigars won't do a lot of damage to your leather wallet

Hmmm....so why do you think they shrink in the first place?
