I've never tried a V cutter. That is something else I have toyed with purchasing.
I use punch and cutter. I tend to cut the smaller RG cigars, and punch the larger.
Cheers fellas....nice to know how other members make there decision... It's does make sense to use a punch with bigger ring gauge... When the I've smoked a few bigger ones they have felt the draw was to light.
I use a punch for most medium and large ring gauges, you need to slowly rotate the punch to get a perfectly clean cut and have a good selection of sizes so that about 75% of the cap is removed by the punch or sometimes you can get an uneven burn.
I just use a cheap EMS branded double guillotine cutter for most of my round capped cigars. It's great as it has a back to it so you can only ever lob 2-3mm off the end for a perfect cut. Other than that I use a punch for 58-60 ring gauge and Solingen cigar scissors for torpedoes, perfectos, etc.
I generally check whether I think the cigar is a little undefiled or not, in which case I will use a punch. I also have a v-cutter, although don't use that much at all

In my case I only buy cigars that have not been defiled!
EMS here too. Took some advice from somewhere and lay it flat on the table. Square the cigar at a vertical right angle and ...slice positively keeping the cigar straight. I find that I get a perfect slice right at the very end of the cap end. So far so good.
...They're probably drinking whiskey and smoking big cigars...
I've tried punch guillotine, V cut piercer the lot and I've always come back to a good quality straight cutter. Punch can be OK as long as it's the right size. My particular V cutter cuts a huge gash (hehe gash[emoji16]!!) which I find hard to deal with.
I use a Palio big fucker straight cutter.
I use cutters or scissors now every time. I tried v cut once and didn't really like it, but it's on standby incase I get one with a tight draw. I used to pinch everything but I had a bad experience that put me off. I punched a 60rg and it tunnelled so badly and ruined the cigar. Since then I've not used it.
