Interesting Cohiba Review

No doubt. Indeed, I don't mind trying a three- or five-pack out, but if I'm going to invest in a box, and I can get 50 kick ass cigars for the price of 25 of these, I hesitate, particularly given that I like to be able to sit down to a relatively regular smoke and not freak out about my credit card statement.Originally posted by Gryph View PostFor 1 stick.. try it. Same you'd (I'd?!) spend on a decent bottle of vino... what's the worst that can happen?
On the other hand, I have dreams of buying four boxes of everything, storing it all in a gigantic walk-in humidor, and exhaling in total satisfaction as my wife brings me a bourbon.

It sounds like the general view is that they are consistent, excellent cigars that could do well with a price adjustment.

After trying many brands (in Cuba no less), Cohiba was the favourite by far. For me, the somewhat unique 'cohiba' flavour was what did it, both on the draw, smoke and aftertaste. Of course, these things are very personal - each to their own.
Favourite is the Robusto by miles, with the Siglo VI a close second. The V and IV I tried were also very good. Esplendido ... wasn't that fussed, but I think it was too long for me
If you were to try any, I can back the robusto (as do a cab in my humidor) as a great example.
Of course, this is from someone who found a Oliva V too 'sweet' and R&J too 'perfumy, nasty aftertaste'. H-Upmann Junior Tubo on one night just didn't work, but the other night (non tubo) it did!
But after trying everything, the Cohiba Robusto works every time for me.
EDIT: to add ... after reading that review - everything is subjective. I tried an Edmundo before the Cohiba Robusto. Edmundo, very good, smooth, but to be honest lacked that 'something', and certainly lacked the 'smell'. That said, it may have been a badly stored one! I've got 25 robusto laid down, 25 siglo VI, and to be honest, adding 25 Edmundo would be nice.

The Cohiba Robusto is a very good cigar. A bit over-priced ? Maybe, but to be honest I think it is fair value. It is a very complex and interesting cigar, either the guys palate ain't up to it, he was unlucky, or they were just really young though, I find a young Cohiba Robusto to be just fine.

I'd argue vehemently against over-rated. I've had quite a few Cohibas, and all have been exceptional - for me it's the consistency which makes them so good.
Over-priced, on the other hand, is possibly a fairer accusation. Then again, they are very good (in my opinion) and you pays your money you takes your choice... That said, a couple of quid of the price would be greatly appreciated from my viewpoint...
We had a similar debate about the whole over-priced/over-rated thing at JJF during the SLR evening a few weeks ago. General consensus seemed to be that they have an excellent reputation for a reason, but the crowd was split on the price issue...

I've only had the Siglo 2. Very nice, but IMO there are just as good smokes for a bit less moolah.

Interesting Cohiba Review
I have yet to have a Cohiba--it's next on the list of must-try cigars. However, I keep hearing quite a bit of back-and-forth on this brand and just read this less than salutary review in the following:
As the Robusto is my favorite cigar vitola, it should come as no surprise that the Cohiba Robusto would be a cigar I would be interested in.
I'm still probably going to try some Siglo IV's sooner than later, but I hear a lot of people throw the terms "overpriced" and "overrated" at these sticks, and then there are those who've got nothin' but love. Is this just a matter of preference?Tags: None
