Interesting Cohiba Review

Well,
I've just finished a secreto generously gifted to me by Sir George, and I can say by direct experience now that as far as I'm concerned, Cohibas have a fantastic flavor profile. Mine was a bit like a cuban espresso with cream--sweet, smooth, and full of a coffee/chocolate flavor. And for such a small stick, it lasted quite a long time. I'm converted. Next up a genio.

Having dissected the cigar at least I am satisfied that it is a real Cohiba. I wonder how many more of my SLB are too tight to smoke.
Not a great advert for Cuban cigars at ?400 a box.
Yes, I'm pissed off.

Pardon my Californian, but that is absolutely uncool. I was graciously gifted a Cohiba Robusto by Sir George, so I'll let you know when I get a chance to sit down and enjoy this object of controversy.Originally posted by moidoid View PostI've just tried one of my well-kept 2006 Robustos and I would say I smoked a quarter before it became impossible to draw on due to having a 1 inch plug at the band. I will do an autopsy but I am less than impressed with a ?20+ cigar being unsmokeable.
I am less than impressed with the number of expensive cigars I buy that are not pleasurable due to their construction. Surely a plugged cigar should be a rarity?

I am a big Cohiba fan but they do not smoke well young. 2 years minimum ideally 5 or more. My picks are the Sig II, IV and VI.

Just seen a list of aged singles at Sautter and they have :
Cohiba Corona Especiales Reserva 1998/9
& Cohiba Siglo IV 1995 both for ?30 each so you can check out some aged sticks if you pop into see Johhny.

Senor Robusto,Originally posted by senor_robusto View Post
as much as i think there's other great cigars coming outta cuba, mainly (for me) from brands like h upmann, hoyo de monterrey, partagas and bolivar, there's a very good reason why cohiba is so highly regarded!!!! however, i stated recently that i think a title fight should be arranged between cohiba and trinidad........
* the corona especial (fidel castro's favourite vitola)
* the siglo III
* the maduro secretos
* the siglo VI
all the best,
alex
I'm surprised you didn't list the robusto! You make an interesting point about the trinidad, which has a sort of similar position of being relatively expensive and getting very high marks from some, and others finding them not so great--though they are also on the list.
But hey, could Fidel be wrong? And if he was wrong, could anyone ever get a word in edgewise to tell him so?

Now, a bottle of '02 Cristal, Cohiba robusto and a warm evening - that's a fine hour indeedOriginally posted by nicwing View Post
I am like many here on this thread in that I find the Cohiba hype and to a greater extent the price has put me off. I look at them a bit like Crystal Champagne and Hip Hopists in that they almost appear a badge of honour or prestige.

Cohiba's are expensive but you are buying something very, very special. To me Cohiba is the flagship brand for Habanos - nothing is left to chance. It is almost a National symbol. You take a superb product - turn it up a notch and you have Cohiba. I'm a fan!Originally posted by moidoid View PostI have a box of Cohiba Robustos gently doing their thing since 2006. Perhaps I should crack them open this summer and report back. I have a few Cohiba lying around - a Siglos VI, and Esplendido & a LE Piramide but I don't think I've ever tried one! I think that they just feel too expensive to smoke...

hey soulmanure,
i am one of the fellows here who states openly that i think cohibas are expensive and over rated...........then i have to eat my words when i have a secretos, siglo II or robusto!!!! lol!!! the siglo VI is a fantastic cigar, i've only ever had 3 of them and they were heavenly..........

back to the topic though, you definitely gotta give cohibas a go!!! they are fantastic cigars that very rarely leave you feeling disappointed or worse, cheated!!! some will suggest the robusto, some the siglo VI.........i'm gonna stick my neck out and recommend........

these have all been fantastic cigars, never had a bad one yet (even though i've only ever bought them, except for the secretos, as singles from my local habanos shop here in belfast)! i'd love to try a lancero, never see them sold singly here
all the best,
alex

An almost sensible post from TJ, well that's a first.

But price and bling aside, I have to say that I have smoked very few and am not really qualified to judge but the Siglo IV tubo I smoked sitting outside Franco's in Jermyn street last summer with three very good friends is without doubt the very best cigar I have ever smoked (and it was a gift so I don't have that light walleted after taste either!)
If this thread does one thing it's to make me want to try some more and try to keep an open mind.

I second that review.
I read that review the other day senorOriginally posted by Soulmanure View PostI have yet to have a Cohiba--it's next on the list of must-try cigars. However, I keep hearing quite a bit of back-and-forth on this brand and just read this less than salutary review in the following:
As the Robusto is my favorite cigar vitola, it should come as no surprise that the Cohiba Robusto would be a cigar I would be interested in.
I'm still probably going to try some Siglo IV's sooner than later, but I hear a lot of people throw the terms "overpriced" and "overrated" at these sticks, and then there are those who've got nothin' but love. Is this just a matter of preference?
soulman, and somewhat agree.
I have been a big fan of the Cohiba line for many years, especially the VI and secretos. But lately, the robustos have been leaving me
wanting.
I thought it was me, but after reading the review, maybe not.
I'm still big fan and hoping a few years in the humidor will correct the deficiencies I've noticed in recent productions.
Well, (hic) that's what I think, anyway (hic).

Hey El Perro. If you don't want 'em, I have a box you can put them in.
