Crackle

Sometimes when im smoking a cigar i can hear a crackle at the burn line.. Anyone know why? Is it an air pocket somewhere popping with the heat?

well ive inspected my sticks with a very strong magnifying glass, no tiny holes for entry or exit of bugs, humi is clean, i think the cracking sound could be the outer leaf cracking as the burn is to hot and that particular stick was very dry.

well ive inspected my sticks with a very strong magnifying glass, no tiny holes for entry or exit of bugs, humi is clean, i think the cracking sound could be the outer leaf cracking as the burn is to hot and that particular stick was very dry.

I am not trying to make you nervous Eggy, but just because there are no pin holes for entry or exit does not mean that there are no beetles eggs within.

If present, it is common for the beetle eggs to already be on the tobacco prior to rolling. Of course, manufacturers have come a long way in preventing beetle infestations. So, I wouldn't worry too much as long as you keep your humi in ideal conditions, you should be good to go.

It could also be what you mentioned about the stick being too dry and the outer leaf cracking. So, relax and have a smoke!

Sounds about right. Usually expansion of the filler causes the binder to split first, the might be what you're hearing. Did the wrapper hold up throughout?

Funny, I've never had this before, but a stick I smoked yesterday (JL SS) was popping a bit, one to watch out for, but I'm hoping it's the dry/hot combination...

Why take any chances. I freeze everything when it arrives. It removes any potential doubts and saves me getting that crawling-skin sensation at the thought of beetles.

NC's are frozen before they leave the factories. CC's after 08 likewise. Any beetle lavae you might hear popping are likely to be long-dead ones. But my home-freezing helps with the peace of mind.
