I tried Spotify but it's a no go for me beacuse... I'm not willing to pay for 320 kbps (Just acceptable for me.) and i'm unwilling to listen at below 320 kbps.
If i'm listening to music I want to hear it as close to how it should be heard as possible.
CD/Lossless Rips is still king for me for a combination of quality and convenience. Vinyl is now a rare occurrence, as is Mini Disc. High Def downloads haven't really proven their worth to me yet either.
CD is still king.
I'm the same, if the quality isn't there I won't bother (dads a sound technician and ex record company owner). I am prepared to let it gobble the data but then I get 12gig PM on a 4G plan. At home we have superfast 50 so data isn't an issue. I use spotify all day at work, in the car through a parrot asteroid and at home too. Well I do pay a tenner PM so I have to use it!
As for mini discs, wow you taking me back there Marc, I have a box of those somewhere (no idea where) which would make your toes curl! Mainly psy trance and rock/metal. My music trends have been much more varied since then and since my stint as the Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra's music librarian/concert manager. Sadly the GPO is no more, Guildford council in their wisdom decided the money was better spent on buying 5 bed houses for foreign dole scabs (I have sore feeling yes).
Don't know some of them but JC is the light of my life hehe.
Kristofferson is essentially the Bob Dylan of country music. Listen to these soulful words!
[fun fact]The song called 'To Beat the Devil' (plays at 2:47) was written for Johnny Cash by Kristofferson after Kris had seen Cash at the lowest part in his life. Very touching.
Next song is probably the most covered country song of all time. Originally by Kristofferson.
When/if you get a chance, give him a listen. If you like Cash, you'll adore KK!!
Addendum:
Doc Watson is probably THE best bluesgrass musician who's ever existed. Willie Nelson is quintessential 'outlaw' country. And Roger Miller combined crooning with country with a twang that only Roger Miller could do. It was like a scat but more jokingly done.

I love minidiscs..... I only use them for recording radio very rarely now. They used to be my go to for all portable music.
What an interesting job that must have been, working with the Orchestra!

Yup I remember when my dad got his very early on I was sooooo impressed! I couldn't believe I could have so much music in such a small box lol. Had it in my car too, felt so modern...
The GPO was a wonderful job, I got it purely through nepotism as my godfathers wife ran it. I've always been emerged in classical and choral music as dads company Guild Records was a purely Choral label. My grandfather was the first Precentor at Guildford Cathedral and is buried in the crypt so we still look after their sound system and plasma screens for them. It was a very sad day that the GPO died! They relied heavily on council arts fund subsidising and had a zero musician employees system. That just meant that they used freelance musicians rather than resident ones which is good in that the core was often the same group but that some special musicians were often involved. My uncle Barry Rose was the master of music and organist at St Pauls, Canterbury and St Albuns cathedrals over the years and gained an OBE for organising the music at Charles and Diana's wedding. So its in the blood you see. I didn't have any special skills that earned me the job but I did have a love of the music so...
I miss it.
I've had to swap to a bit of hayseed Dixie as although I like Kk's voice I'm on piece work and he's a bit to chilled.....
However every time I listen to hayseed Dixie I wonder why I don't do it more often, their ace.
