  • I have to admit to being a fan of musicals. I was very sceptical about this La La Land so hadn't bothered with it.
Last week, curiosity got the better of me. While it is certainly not in the class of My Fair Lady, West Side Story and Singin in the Rain
etc. I have to say it was excellent and I really enjoyed it.

I stopped watching those for the plot some time ago. Mila Jovovich however, I concur, seems to still have it.

I didn't think it was too bad - it's no Empire Strikes Back, but as Star Wars stuff goes, and films in general these days, it's nice that it starts and finishes. You don't need to have seen some other film or followed a TV series or some other interlinked Marvel horsehockey.

Me too & I don't usually like musicals.

            • Not too sure if this one has been mentioned, 'Dead Mans Shoes' starring Paddy Considine. Its not for the faint hearted or a movie to watch with the good lady unless she also likes that kinda stuff. It can be pretty brutal in some places but what a ovie.

              • Just watched Silence. Jesuits in 17th Century Japan. I fell asleep. Nuff said !

                • I watched Silence a few nights ago. I thought it was a wasted opportunity, with some bizarre lapses in editing (at one point a character starts speaking without their lips moving then the camera cuts to their lips in sync).

Tokugawa Japan - interesting because Samurai. Weird Jesuit goings on - The Mission shows that has interest. Put together, blah.

                  • "the Invitation" was a good film I watched recently. Horror / thriller. No one of note in it but was a good find

                    • I've watched a bunch of films over the last few days (stupid insomnia) - Passengers, okay, nice production design; Transpecos, very decent indie flick; Seoul Station, Korean animated zombie flick, also very decent. Others possibly that I am foggy on due to an 0330 start time.

                      • I enjoyed 'Homesman' with Hillary Swank Tommy Lee Jones & numerous recognisable character actors. Recommended, if you like that sort of thing.

I liked that film a lot. One of the best films of 2014 IMO.

                            • Just watched Che parts one and two. Wasn't to bad, I had lower expectations since I have never been a big fan of Soderbergh's films except for Traffic.
