Excellent! Couldn't have suggested a better backdrop to your first Havana.Originally posted by Dorsetman View PostFollowing a four month long lockdown, Rockbourne Trout fishery reopened today and the Trout were very obliging. What an occasion to experience my very first cigar - an Upmann half Corona and what a result - truly a reward cigar!
If you enjoyed the HUHC, which is a fine wee smoke, then I am just as certain you'll enjoy the others in your selection too. Any pic's of the fishery, trout & cigar?

Last Sunday was the last day of the English River Season & I was back out on the River Avon, near Ibsley Bridge.
For some reason I couldn't upload my photo's then so hopefully I can do now & close the season out. I did fish a couple of pits on Mon & Tues but blanked. That'll be it for me until last weekend of May, when the Dutch Predator season commences.
So, I had put a few chopped up old baits in the big slack yesterday, hoping to attract more fish to hold in rhe area.
Had an early start & was cast out & having breackfast by 07:40. 08:20, on that gorgeous morning & the first run was away. I actually saw the rod tip bounce & the line pinged out of the drop back clip & the alarm buzzed quietly (no need to have it set louder when you sit on the rods).
Winding down I connected with a hard fighting fish, that amazed me how long ot managed to fight with the strength of the current, more powerful than the prev wk. I chose to walk it up to the next swim as I had struggled to net the prev dble, with the current & bankside vegetation.
At the upstream swim, a semi-circular cut away swim, enabled me to land the best fish of my stay. Next day celebrated with a CCE.
Couple of hrs later & another jack was banke
My 🏴 PB of 14lb's still stands but I am confident it will fall before this time next season.

At the moment, I'm the complete antithesis of a cigar smoker and my introduction to the forum will explain why. However to address that issue, I have devised a 'cunning plan' to visit Rockbourne when it opens on 29 March to not only fish but actually provide the opportunity for my first cigar! To directly answer your enquiry, I live in Poole and I am a member of Sadac & a club on the River Wylye near Wilton.

Aha- just read your "Newbie greet" from Poole I seeOriginally posted by Dorsetman View PostI've only just joined the forum and delighted to see that there is an angling thread with regular contributors - “honest, civil, quiet men” so Isaak Walton described anglers. Last weekend on the river for me today now the season has ended.
There wasn’t a single person out but guessing Mother’s Day put a stop to most people heading out.
Weather looked fanciable for a bite but not even a liner. Highlight of the day was a Epicure No2 around 1ish. As soon as that was finished I packed up and headed home as it was far too windy.
Next season target is 25+ barbel with a double amongst those. Whilst I love fishing the Avon (10-minute drive for me) I’m going to head to different waters to achieve my target as it’s been ‘Ottered’ and the Barbel numbers just aren’t there anymore.
Heard stories of decent Carp in the local canals so will try them until it warms up, I’ll then hit the commercials for some pole fishing. Roll on June 16th.

Well since last Mon, I have blanked every day. Had yesterday off to rest & spend day with our daughter. Today, fishing a different strech of the River Avon, one we walked along yesterday. Nice slacks to fish, main flow still brisk & powerful. Had trouble getting my rig to hold in the flow but managed fishing 70g lead straight.
Amused myself with this perfectly constructed & very earthy tasting Boli CG Tubos 2002, what a glorious day, enjoy yours too!
