  • Ozone Generators?

I had a quick search on the forum and see some you use these machines. I’m about to pull the trigger on one but wondering how effective they are for removing stale smoke.

I’ve a large inline fan in a shed, using it properly with inlet (door open) at opposite end etc. its great but next day the shed stinks. The smell isn’t a deal breaker and I can live with it if I have to.

I’ve also looked at the various air purifiers, good ones are expensive and id only have to use the ozone once a week max or when the smell builds up.

Anyone actually use them and do they work - or should I keep my money and look for a purifier?

Edit: I see they can destroy plastics and worryingly - electrical insulation on cables. Other than that, the only plastic is a tv and laptop in the shed!

Make sure you're not in the room when it's running. No pets, fish tanks either... In fact nothing living in the same room including plants,

Masking rather than getting rid, but I use an incense stick after a smoke.

Took me ages to get rid of the smell of incence from my shed after my daughter left - the little hippy!

im not a fan but i like the sandalwood ones, i tried one but yeh - it just masks or joins with and exagerates the cigar.

A silver ozone generator leaves the room with a slightly metallic smell, and no smoke.

I used this 30,000 mg/h machine today. It states 20 minutes for 30 m³. My shed is 4 x 3 m with an angled roof, so it is under 30 m³. I gave it 20 minutes.

When I went back in, I held my breath and turned the extractor fan on. My clothes smelled a bit like wet dog, sort of. I have never owned a dog so I could be wrong, but it definitely does not smell like a fresh thunderstorm.

I left the extractor fan running for 30 minutes with the door open. Still wet dog. It is a 1230 m³ per hour fan, on half power, so technically it changed the air 6 to 8 times.

Humidity is 60% in the shed. I never checked the temperature, but it is 4°C outside and wet. The shed has not been used for a few days and theres been no heating on.

I planned to smoke in the shed today, so being impatient, I gave it another 30 minutes on the machine. Wet dog again. I aired it out for another hour and it was slightly less wet dog.

My daughter is a nurse and said it smells like a “sluice room”, the room for offensive waste. Not a compliment.

I will air it out for a few hours on a higher extraction rate and hopefully it settles, but right now I would prefer stale cigars - which i cant smell!

If you have a heater turn that on for a while. Curtis to see what that does.

I done just that and there’s nothing more than a hint of the ozone smell, in fact it’s the only thing you can smell – the normal shed smell is gone too.

Don’t know if it was the heater that worked or it just needed more time.

Cigar smell has gone completely. A quick puff of an air freshener and the sheds been reset!

Heat makes a loooot of difference. Even getting the room up to 13C makes a difference.

                    Good to hear.
