Yeah I've been wondering about those Cohiba red dots....so they have nothing at all to do with the Cuban real Cohibas?

Ok, so there is more to this than what may appear on the surface.

I'm sure I also read somewhere that immediately after the revolution the Cuban government stopped using the traditional brand names, and then started using them again after the nameless brands flopped

That also must be the reason why Cuba fights to stop the Americans using Cohiba but not the others brands

Sorry for the outburst but that has really gripped my sh1t.
They haven't ripped anyone off, they are still under licence the big brands have just setup business there to escape the embargo. It's big business.

                    Package from America

So montecristo that's sold in USA isn't the same company as montecristo Cuba?

Only difference is the tobacco? Maybe I'm missing the point here?

No montecristo in the usa is nothing to do with montecristo cuba. They have used the montecristo name as the usa does not recognise any cuban trade marks.

The chaps that setup montecristo Cuba fled when the cigar industry was nationalised and then eventually setup in the Dominican. So technically it's not the same company but started by the same owners.

The ONLY commonality between the Cuban marcas and their non-Cuban Namesakes is their name, absolutely nothing else.
