• Just received some sticks from a trade with potpest

Many thanks, now I can finally try the Grandes de Espana! If anyone has a few they would like to get rid of I would certainly love to do a little trade.

• Although small, that is a very superior selection.

• Tres bon! Did someone say long and skinny?! Some beautiful smoking memories to be had right there, bravo!
Only the impossible is worth the effort.

• I hope you enjoy them. I wish I had more of the Grandes de Espana. I regret getting a few to try and not buying a box when they were available.

I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

• A popular Spanish vendor advertised a box last year on his FB at around retail. It sold within 2 minutes. Haven't seen them for sale since.

Yes I could.....

Hmm, but what does one actually pay for a box of them with the premium and the vat. I remember that someone purchased a box of cigars at auction and he had to add quite a few quid to the hammer price.

• "• Buyers are charged 15% of the hammer price (plus VAT) on a Lot being purchased successfully."

I never remember...

Total = x * 1.38 ?

But I think that it came out to a little more than that. I will try to find the the thread after work tonight.

That would have been...a friend of mine. This...friend of mine asked me to post the details on his behalf because, apparently, he felt a little, ahem, embarrassed. This is what he wrote before:

My first cigar auction and, to be honest (and despite all the discussion on here!), I didn't scroll down enough before bidding to the big red notice that said, for EU shipping/collections, VAT is applied to the hammer price, ie not just to the auctioneer's fee (as it does with, say, antique auctions); so it was a bit unwelcome (but my own fault) to realise the full cost was the hammer price plus 15% fee plus, effectively, VAT on the lot and ?8.50 postage to give a total of ?236.20; so an impressive 43% mark-up on the hammer price to go to those well-deserving cases HMRC and CGars! These means I spent ?9.50 each on a 22 year old version of a cigar that retails now for c ?5. Obviously, I'm hoping now that they have been well-stored and that they are at least are twice as good - and appreciably so - for their 'sleep'. A lesson learned otherwise! My friend had put this out of his mind UNTIL NOW!!!! The box remains unopened, but my friend is reconciled to the situation happy that ERDMs are said to improve particularly well with age. He just hopes they won't be dust when he opens the box...

That must have hurt. The mark-up is huge. That's one of the reasons I kinda stopped with auctions. I never bought any cigars at auction but have pulled the trigger on a few comic books in the past.
