  • Tonight, a dram (or two) of Auchentoshan American Oak. A non-age-statement single malt so It's probably quite young, but it does have an interesting citrus and vanilla and apple finish. Quite smooth.
It’ll be interesting to see how this bottle develops.

    • Tonight's dram is a classic, but still a first-time for me. The super-peaty Caol Ila. This is a 12 year old.

Great dram. They discontinued it in our Canadian province of 15million people. Not a bottle left.

        Enjoy it for me, eh.

They are! They're a great way to try stuff out without buying bottle after bottle!

            • Had no idea you could buy by the dram. Excellent idea, especially as I am still exploring all the different options out there. Don't want to waste a lot of money on something I don't like.

Yeah, I love them just as samplers. A whole bottle can be a gamble (and a pain if space is limited and you want a lot of choice). They are dearer than buying a bottle (work out a shade more expensive than buying at a pub I'd say) but you can also get to try out stuff you'd be hard pressed to find in a bar. Whisky aficionados say you don't get to experience the bottle changing after it's been opened and so on, but I'd hate to be lumbered with a pricey bottle that didn't float my boat.

                • I had a glass of Penderyn Welsh single malt on Saturday night down in Tenby, very very nice!

Bit like the Speyside malts, quite sweet with enough spice to make it interesting. Will definitely look some more!

Being in Wales I keep meaning to give Penderyn a look... going on the list now! Thanks!
