Cold brewed coffee

The article I was referring to has a very similar process (doesn't stipulate as high as 24hrs refrigerated), but obviously ups the coffee. It notes that it's a concentrated brew that can be cut a bit (diluted) I personally like the sound of a stronger brew to play with (if necessary) and I'd rather not wait 12 hours for a potentially weak product. It'd be a waste of time and materials. For reference, the author used a French press, which I understand to be proper alsoOriginally posted by PeeJay View PostThe proper jug uses 80g of coffee to a litre of water then brew for twelve hours at room temperature or 24 hours in the fridge.

Don't waste fresh beans on Cold Brew! How I do it is make a fresh 1litre of cwaffie with the ground beans in a French Press. With the sludge at the bottom, fill it with steaming water and let it sit there for 3 hours on the counter and 1 hour in the fridge. Toss in some ice, cream, vanilla/caramel/maple syrup, and some sugar. Mix and drink!
The best part about the second cold batch is that it's almost entirely devoid of caffeine. So have a coffee in the morning to get your daily fix (you dirty addicts) and have one in the afternoon for a nice refresher to keep you going on sugar and cream.
With the final ground beans, toss them in the garden for a nice mulch for your flowers.

That's what I thought, as my understanding from reading about it is that cold brewed coffee should not be confused with iced coffee (brewed with hot water, chilled and served with ice) as what makes it different is the fact that the coffee has not come into contact with hot water therefore reducing its acidity and making it taste sweeter.Originally posted by Joss View PostSounds nice that but isn't the principle that the grounds never touch hot water? I read somewhere that the flavours will be very different as a result.

This is in regards to cold brew, eh?Originally posted by Joss View PostSounds nice that but isn't the principle that the grounds never touch hot water? I read somewhere that the flavours will be very different as a result.
I suppose! You're essentially making a giant cold ice tea with this which sounds like a great idea, really.
