  • Really looking forward to this and praying work doesn't get in the way, but I guess the one thing I find slightly intimidating is that cigar smoking is a bit of a ritual – a good one, and one I want to learn, but it’s a ritual nonetheless. As yet, I have no cutter, no lighter and no idea. Making it up at home on my own is one thing (I’m actually pretty good with the veg knife!), but I don't want to make a complete idiot of myself. Suppose what I’m saying is I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone, but hope you'll help out the vacant looking newbie! (I’m 44, but feel like a kid about to start at a new school!)

Don't worry, we all started somewhere. Most if us have spare bits and pieces, some might be able to spare. I'm not sure about 1a st james, but JJfox up the road sells various necessary accessories to suit a varied budget. We are a friendly bunch, don't sweat it.

I'm confused Isn't this a good excuse to buy a cutter, lighter etc

As a friend of mine says, etiquette only matters if you're around people who know or care about it, and I for one don't

Amen to that but he can still have a cutter if he wants it.

            • Thanks All good to hear. I've spent a lot of time in situations where protocol matters (especially the military) so perhaps I get a bit hung up on it, but I really should know better in this case. Everyone I've come across on this forum has been great - welcoming, warm, friendly - so I know I'm in the right place, doing the right thing and that's what's important.

Isn't this a good excuse to buy a cutter, lighter etc
Oh yes, definitely need my own (can't use the veg knife forever) and very likely to be a bit of shopping I'll enjoy, but unfortunately it probably isn't going to happen before Wednesday. And always better to buy something based on thought and recommendation, rather than some acquisitive spasm on eBay or Amazon. Then again, I suppose I could wander down to JJ's early afternoon - I can't join you for the pre-herf, but could be a chance to say hello during a quick lunch break before I go berserk with the family credit card.

You will be fine as these places tend to have plenty of complimentary cutters and matches for the customer to use...

                Look forward to meeting you

Nothing so exciting Freelance management consultant - covers a multitude of sins. In fact, I ought to get on with it really, otherwise I'll be stuck in the office on Wednesday evening instead of herfing. Discovering fine cigars and forums at the same time is very distracting!

                          • Hi Robert, I spoke to Oliverp today and he would like to come. He's not on the forum a lot but is keen to come. I sent him a link to this page and told him to post something so he should do that later.
                            Thanks

                              • MarkLondon - Hello Mark, I had you as a Yes and then a No. Shall I put you as a maybe- hope you can make it.

Monkey66 - Well I guess if the wine will hamper the sampling process!

Peejay - No Berry Brothers cola available.

Drewmidorn - Don't forget we are open all day - so you can arrive here whenever suits for a cigar.

Cohiba VI - Thank you. I am really pleased about the band!

Undercover - There will be plenty of complimentary cutters and matches - very happy to talk you through the regular range as well.

Sheppsea - We have a good range of accessories - see what you think.

Nicwing - We have reserved your usual chair Mr Wing

Tommy / Oliverp - Many thanks and look forward to seeing you.
I'm sure there are greater things in life than a fine cigar ........... but right now I can't think what they might be.
