    Fellow Geeks:

I plan to take my SSD to a local tech to see if it can be saved. In the meantime, I re-installed the old HD and my PC is up and running, albeit a bit slower.

So, If I have to replace the SSD, what SSD would you recommend?

    • Can you get one (2 actually) running on RAID1? That way you should be protected from a failure again.

Probably, I have 4 HDs and 1 SDD packed into my PC, so I could probably do something like that going forward. But first I need to figure out what SSD to get as a replacement for the failed SSD.

        • Why the SSD? Is the gain in access speed worth the alleged loss of reliability? I'd go with a mirrored RAID array or just back up regularly.

I see what you're saying se?or Peej, and will consider it as an alternative to an SSD. But since speed is an issue for HD video ( I do a lot of work with GoPro video), I need something that can handle it.

IMO Seagate make some of the best hard drives, IBM, Quantum and Maxtor made the best back in the day but IBM don't make them any more Quantum sold out to Maxtor and then Maxtor were bought out by Seagate around the a same time that Seagate also bought out Samsungs HDD business.

Seagate do some SSD/HDD hybrids that are well thought of.

Western Digital have always been pretty decent too.

Well, I can't comment on reliability yet.

My other drive is a Crucial M4, which I've had a long time now.

I've seen to SanDisk SSDs fail at work within a week if that helps :P

It does, amigo. I'm currently looking at the Crucial M500 which received the highest rating among 9 other SSDs on a site called techradar.components. I've added it to my wish list.
Currently, my Samsung SSD in in the hands of a local tech to see if it can be revieved!

                            TechRadar is great.

The M500s replaced the M4s I believe and are a bit quicker

                            Good Luck!

Glad you recognized them, because I never heard of 'em. UK based, I assume.

The M500 is now at the top of my list if I need to replace the SSD or if I decide to set up a RAID 1.

                              Thanks for the suggestion, muchacho!
