• Barcelona trip

    Morning,

That?s me back from Barcelona/Andorra and thought I?d share my shop experiences in case it helps anyone else! Probably the best pair of places I?ve ever been for cigar shopping especially in Andorra having those prices but unlike Cuba actually being able to find virtually everything you might want!

So Andorra there?s ?then cigar shop? where I ended up using up my 75 per person limit service was great and the care of the cigars was second to none. I did somehow manage to end up with a box of panetellas extras when I asked for Perlas but that?s partly my own fault! My only real frustration here was that he?d put loads of empty discontinued boxes on the shelves in one section that I kept getting excited about til I realised they were empty.

They had the most standard production I?d ever seen here pretty well everything in stock that I could tell. They also had the 25 boxes of Andorra REs and a fair few recent LEs stocked. Everything available as boxes or singles as the best price you?ll find outside of Cuba. This stock clearly moves so very little of any age, more than happy to let you go through boxes also (it took me about 6 boxes to find a QdO without obvious rolling issues/cracks)

Andorra is also amazingly cheap for alcohol, the supermarkets are stocked with more variety than I?ve ever seen and probably about 25% below Spanish duty free prices. Some real quality to the rums and gins especially for not much, sadly I was only travelling with hand luggage so no bottles for me.

There?s not a huge amount else to do in Andorra but to note this is the size of a single gin in a bar (the tonics not gone in yet) ?4.50

Then onto Barcelona... after 7kingsguy suggestion I had popped into a few tabacs with questionable cigar storage but then went to estanc 32. They now have a younger guy working who has some English but it was easier to talk in my broken Spanish! This isn?t quite the golden land it once was but I did pick up a couple Cohiba IIs from 08 a few Punch Coronation Tubos from the same year, a handful of the LGC Spanish RE to replace the ones from the box I?ve smoked, they did have some sticks remaining with some age on but not a huge amount now. All at standard Spanish prices though!

I then tried Gimenos but their service put them down, ended up spending very little here as they were clearly not interested in letting me see what they had in the cave. I wanted to browse and see what was there to maybe grab another box but they said I needed to tell me what exactly I was looking for for them to see if they had before I could look. I really couldn?t be bothered with the argument and asked about aged sticks to be told I needed to speak to the owner as they were a different price which I didn?t think was legal. The shop clearly has amazing stock downstairs but my face obviously didn?t fit here.

Then onto my favourite find of the trip estanc Tabasco?s mayne I believe it?s called on the Pinar del pi in the gothic quarter. The stock here was varied in condition to say the least but they had plenty of stock from 08/09 what was it about these years in Spain that has left all this stock?! I picked up the end of a box of Epi 1 ?08?s here and a handful of Epi 2 ?09?s, also a fiver of coronitas en cedro ?08, some sc el principes ?08, a monte 04 ?08, and some choix supreme ?06 the last I realised they were only charging me ?3.60 each for! This shop also had plenty of the LGC Spanish RE so I picked up another box, as well as standard production they had a full box of Leyenda some Hoyo limited?s and a fair amount of Monte opens with some real age on them. This shop just left me in the humi to my own devices too which is especially helpful with the Spanish love of warning stickers over the box stamps!

    Hopefully this may help someone

      Will take proper shots later but this was the collection;

The RyJs and Trinidad coloniales are full of other sticks that they put into those boxes

Excellent haul, guidelines are 200 at present from with the EU, so well in within that. One amazing fact that hit me in your report was:

'and some choix supreme ?06 the last I realised they were only charging me ?3.60 each for!'

I paid E4 ea for my 50 cab of '06 back in '06, from Gesto's!

Yes I realised after I?d left they were charging me for Demi Tasse?s they definitely shouldn?t have been that price!

Great thread - I’m heading here in August (COVID dependant) and will update accordingly.

For anyone looking for the Gothic Quarter shop head to Google Maps and type in ‘Estanc Mayne, Cava de Cigars’.

Re the “stock 2008” comment. Spain got hit really had during 2008 with the financial crisis so guessing people weren’t spending on luxury items.

Mix that with (I assume) fewer tourists and that could be the reason that specific year is common-place now.
