Certainly not an accusation I can assure you! My question is asking 'how' auctioneers in general know. I'm sure there will be strict checks and criteria to meet prior to lots being placed up for auction, I'm just curious as to what they are.

Lets face it though without solid provenance, no one would know that let's say the 1992 box they had just spend ?1200 on hasn't been filled with 2010 sticks of the identical vitola...

Yeah its something pretty old. Sealed too. It was meant to be a surprise for the Aberdeen herf that has been discussed for next year, but feel it may have been soured slightly by worrying about it

The cigars that are available for viewing would be the ones to consider. Also the very old stuff that can only be genuine as opposed to the more recent but slightly aged lots which are easily replaced with new stock. When push comes to shove you have to understand that sometimes if you want something you have to take a risk. If I saw something I wanted I would probably bid in the knowledge that if there is a bad lot in the bunch my odds are good for not picking it.

There is 'some' provenance required to list your item(s) for auction but it's down to who checks that information. It's this exact reason why I won't bid in these auctions.

I'll either buy and age my own stock or have dealings with trustworthy individuals who can be relied on for authentic aged smokes.

The cgar auction is no diffrent from any other. The lots are put in by other people, the auction house does not guarantee the authenticity that's why as a buyer it's up to you to do your own due diligence

I have 2 bids in (one a joint bid with a fellow forum member) and I had never even considered there may be anything dodge about the auction. Figured its C.Gars LTD so would be above reproach.

After reading this thread I am now cacking myself. If anyone has more information please post or pm me if necessary.
