Not quite ...a robusto costs ?2.67 in excise duty, its 11.66g, ( excuse the ?2 quid exaggeration, the cigars in question were slightly larger) then there's customs duty of 26% on top ( where applicable) and no I certainly don't have 2 hours ( or more) to clear up DHL errors!

Like I say , everyone's an expert, right? except I have been doing this for a living for the last 20 years. Just cigars, nothing much else of note and my understanding of import/export of cigars is limited to the one subject that I have knowledge of i.e.. cigars. So,when auction sellers are entering boxes worth ?1000- ?30,000 per Lot , a ?75 Bond clearance charge is immaterial and essential to correctly import to the UK

    Cheers

Funny story: cigar manufacture r from D.R. that I met at Dortmund show told me a similar story, he wanted to pitch samples to me for own brand long filler small format smokes. I said ' just 6 singles please' to which he said I'll just post them to you, which I was no way going to have.

He doesn't want to pay ?75 clearance fees and ships DHL who promptly and incorrectly invoice us for ?622 importation duties and fees ( should have been ?18 Excise duty, ?6 Customs duty plus VAT plus clearance)

    ...everyone's an expert

I dare say DHL is a fabulous company for importing most items but when it comes to tobacco, I would not use them for import or clearance, they don't have cigar weights nor do they understand them

    Cheers

Nope not cigars but do import yes they make mistakes with amounts but they easily rectify them for you. If you have the weights clearly marked on the package. A couple hrs work with them resolves all the problems for most of your incoming shipments. But if your happy paying 75 quid to clear a bonded package that's up to you. Though I can clear a full container for less from a bond. Also 18 quid for 6 small smokes import duty? A robusto weights 11g so 6 of them should not even be 18 quid duty (yes there's vat and everything else but I am listing it separate like you did)

    Cheers

It is really, I am involved in importing a lot and just let dhl pay the duty and VAT.

Hope you have a good Christmas too.

You get people to send items to a bonded warehouse? Would it not be easier just to have it dhl or otherwise. Rather than pay a bonded warehouse to release a item.

According to previous correspondence with Mitch he would not take it. Unless you sent it out the country to be imported back in and duty and vat paid and his 95 quid charge for doing this ( the receiving and paying charges)
