Hi Martyn, just pm'd you my bids. Just a thought if there are two or more of us wanting to bid for the same item, it would make sense to come to an arrangement so we are not bidding against each other (just thinking of those members asking Martyn to bid for them). I would be happy to go in with any one who is also interested in the same items as me & split by mutual agreement, via pm's & not on open thread obviously!

Cheers Simon, I have to say I was rather releaved that I had 'got a way with it' but I don't intend to buy any more sealed boxes, to get lucky twice in a row would really be pushing it.

Ah, you noticed Butters little supermarket sized buy Wigan? I assume that's when he's buying for a large group? Even more reason to have them opened so people aren't disappointed with their buy later, I 'd have thought? When buying from Mitch's auction, the sealed boxes are still sealed for a reason. They were originally brought outside of the UK (all UK boxes are opened by H&F), some of these sealed boxes will be unavailable in the UK but with within the EU (which means I can still bid for them) or outside EU. Some collectors prefer to buy unsealed boxes so they are not routinely opened, even if they are delivered to London for the auction. If you expect to re-sell at some point then leave sealed, if you brought them to smoke open them.

I have brought a sealed box from Mitch but I didn't realise until his explanation above that he would have opened them afterwards & cancelled the sale if they were in an unsmokable condition. He did tell me he had sold several boxes form this foreign collector & they had all been fine so like Wigan I took the punt. One advantage bidding for sealed boxes, is that there's less competition as it puts most people off, so you just have to hope there isn't a serious collector who's after them too. Here's the pics of mine moment of truth of unveiling.

Yes all excellent advice but just this once i am going to take a risk. I went for a fairly old sealed box so it could be opened in front of everyone. Like a surprise. Whats it going to have in it? Are we going to be smoked nicely aged cigars or is it a box of dust? The suspense adding to the enjoyment. A bit silly i know but i like to be abit silly sometimes it keeps me young.

Also you buy 20 plus boxes at a time????

If they come straight from Cuba, you should not only freeze them, but open them in front of the retailer.

If they come from a private sale, open them immediately.

Only if they come from a reliable store would I ever dream of not opening them.
But then again, all the stores I know of open their boxes prior to sales.
Only when I buy 20+ boxes are some of them sealed.

Cheers for the advice guys but on this occasion I am going to go with staying sealed. The reason I went for them was they are sealed. Opening was meant to be part of the fun. As that is all they are bought for, i.e. a bit of fun I am going to live life on the edge this time.
