Initially maybe but if when it opens up to the general public it will be just like any other place spoiled by hordes of noisy Americans on holiday

Yeah right, sadly i thinking its in their nature , eventually it comes down to big bucks to be madeOriginally posted by tippexx View PostI really don't think the Yanks would want to ruin it or have it ruined by over-development. It's character is part of the appeal.

Definitely go if you get the chance. Nowhere else in the world is quite like Cuba!Originally posted by parnaby View PostI wonder how this will pan out. I've wanted to go to Cuba for a while now, even before I started smoking cigars. I love the way it has kept its heritage away from the chains. I've been to a couple of islands in SE Asia where there is no ATMs never mind McDonalds and they are magical.
I read Simons blog from his trip in 2011 and it just looks amazing.
Fingers crossed it takes a while for the yanks to completely ruin it.

Be interesting to see how this pans out.
I've always wanted to go to Cuba, even before I got into cigars. I love how it has still kept its charm with there not being any commercialisation. I've been to a few islands in SE Asia where there is barely any ATMs never mind McDonalds n such.
I was hoping to go over in the next couple of years, fingers crossed it takes time for it to be completely ruined.

Not So Fast!
Hurumph! While there are some places in the Caribbean that may not be so safe, there are many islands that the Coros have visited that are quite comfortable and very safe, the Caymans being one.
But yes, because of it's proximity and size, once Cuba is open to all yanks, it will likely return to its former status as the...
Jewel of the Caribbean!

Definitely other parts of the Caribbean, MLW didn't feel safe outside the resort in the DR, security guards with pump action shotguns didn't help with that.

We mean almost everywhere else .... apart from Cuba. Cuba has the opportunity to become a tourist jewel, but the bad elements need to be kept out.

Sorry for being so dense but are you referring to regions of cuba or the carribean?

Was there for two weeks on my own, not once did I feel threatened!Originally posted by wolfie View PostCuba is one of the few safe places in the region for tourists to be able to walk about in without fear of robbery, kidnapping or being caught in a drugs cartel shootout.
+1
Had a few scams tried on me though.

No not being sarcastic .... Some places in the region are 'no go' and in others tourists are confined to resort or have to go out in guarded groups. Being sold a box of Fauxhiba is one thing, having your watch and rings removed with a machete is another.

Are you two being sarcastic? Never been so not sure. Heard people talk about beggers and scams
