Interesting discussion and POVs. I vote to leave it open for a bit longer.

BTW, according to the late, great don TJ, you can leave the forum without being cancelled.

You're absolutely correct Simon, and there are people who collect Steiff Bears and Faberge Eggs and there will be publications and histories covering both collectables .... and I bet they are everyday affordable.

Stamps and toy soldiers are collectables. The 'at new' price for either would be massively less than that of a cigar, but at auction the price of a singular stamp or the right set of soldiers might be greater than that for a box of cigars.
Both collectables have extensive and authoritative publications written about them .... they aren't silly money and are more than good enough for both Sultans and schoolboys.

There's good folk about Puffy plenty of them, and I'm sure Nino's just defending something he loves.... It's regrettable that he acted so sourly in the face of criticism though.

But if your going to shout so loud about something's merits.... Well I will just say that everything has an equal and opposite reaction, and when numerous people react negatively perhaps it's better to try and at least see where they are coming from rather than just pushing harder yourself.

    But we're all only human.

I'm sure he would have been too busy reading his free book set to post much anyway.

To my mind Nino post stands in infamy. I for one will not respond at that level. Matching the level of abuse would be nothing to be proud of.

I get the impression it was his last post here. A shame but that's forums for you.

I'm getting a little tired of this expectation that it's poor men bemoaning that they can't afford to live in a rich man's world.

I will say it again, ?6k isn't a lot of money in the grand scheme of things.... BUT....

This book is being sold on the back of some pretty bold claims, the price is defended with the use of these claims.

A staggeringly large percentage of these books are being given away. It's pretty evident to me that the bill for this is being picked up by people the author is using as a cash cow.

And even before the admittance of the sales breakdown, the pricing was questionable for me, hence making the thread.

I am of the honest belief that this project has been a way to inflate the ego of a small few, evidenced by the sour grape responses towards anyone who dares speak negatively in an way shape or form On the matter.

Honestly, had there been none of the chest beating and glorification of the process.... and had the materials and craftsmanship of the furniture involved been an actual honest account of the amount in question.... I.E. Not plywood flooring. I would have most likely bought one for ?3000.... Still not ?6k... That's personally beyond my level of interest regardless of materials.

Finally, this can't be directly compared with a masterpiece of art... Artwork tends to be a one Off with a price dictated by bidders at an auction.

It can't even be compared with Cigars, due to the fact that there is only ever a finite amount of tobacco grown in a year in Cuba, and once it's gone it will never come back. The book however is a collection of information which could be reproduced ad infinitum at the will of the manufacturer.

In some ways the comparison to cars is perhaps best... If Mercedes tried to sell a ?100k S class using the plastic interior from a ?20k A class, the car magazines would rightly have a field day complaining of low value for money.

the pricing and release of the book are disappointing in so far as there will not be a more affordable issue, at $5k i might of been tempted but at $10k no chance I think the loss of knowledge we could have all gotten from this book is very sad

The book isn't cheap but very few of us can buy everything we want.
From what I have seen it has taken an enormous amount of time, effort and expense to produce.
There have been, we'll say "sharp" remarks from both sides of this argument but why are people denouncing a book based on price when they cannot have seen even a review of it yet. I know there will be retailers and resellers buying this, if they get the opportunity, if, and if so I know they will make a profit.
I am not saying that that makes it "right", I have no comment to make on that.
But we live in a global market, raise a hand everyone who bought cigars outside their country of residence last year.
Just as not many people making 1 dollar a day can afford a television, not many of us can afford a $5k - $10k book.
There is no rule that states we have to be able to. However, there are plenty of people who can.

CubanCigarWebsite is a great site and a great resource, the only one doing what it is doing and accurate.
However, many online cigar smokers either don't know or forget that MRN is responsible for most of Trevor's cigar pictures of pre-2003 stuff and much of the content of that website.

I would leave the thread open Dean. Other Forums are home for trolls and trouble makers, outside of a little truth and banter no one of our members has deliberately sledged for sledging sake or sworn (Well, other than flyingcigar and he want's to be cancelled anyway). It's a book about cigars Dean, it has a price tag, so I don't see why it should an elevated or protected status on here.

    Not really like hamlet...
Rather like Waiting for Godot. So many funnies and so much anger. But nothing happens, 10 times over.

Oh God, Cigar Forums, what a damaged reputation I’m leaving behind me, as no one knows the truth. If you ever loved me, then please postpone the sweet relief of death awhile, and stay in this harsh world long enough to tell my story....

Naaaaah, this one is nothing compared to CA or the other international forums' bashing of this. Don't think [even ] rascal would've beat them on inflammatory!

before you do my post was not derogative and was very constructive about the reasons behind the backlash. A lot nicer than nino's which you have left in place.

To compress as cant be bothered writing it all out again the MRN book is more about him willy waving than anything else and if he had produced a true work like he is claiming (yet to see it and the preview available is full of bad layout and spelling mistakes) then he should have let other people praise him rather than praising himself about achievements that are not something new or ground breaking. If you really produce something new and amazing and at the top of the game I am sure plenty of people would praise and ask about it if you have to tell people you are doing something a certain way and then explain why it is so much better maybe there is a reason people are asking all them questions.

ps. again my post was not derogatory or maybe it was the reference to MRN previous conduct that I can understand being deleted as did not happen here. but hay ho you could have just removed that
