That's what I want, something with a little movement. Thought I'd try my hand at getting in and out.

Will let you know how long it takes to lose £200

    • I've done a bit of trading with pharmaceutical companies before (still have a couple of positions open with some cannabinoid companies) but I've found the prices can rise and rise on the basis of a trial, but as soon as there are results or news slightly below expectations... they can drop like a stone. High risk, but worth the gamble if you drop on one which develops something genuinely useful, and even the hype can see you with fairly impressive returns

      • I've just started buying into some renewable energy which are seeing some pretty impressive gains in the US market. I'm assuming based on a Biden win, but still, surely they're going to be increasing in the future regardless of the outcome of the election

Aye, 4D Pharma & Val prove your point there Kern, both dropped like a stone after results that were far from bad, just not up to hyped expectations. So my advice certainly put in a stop loss & tighten it with impending news. Hot tip of the day, if you are not already in BPC (& I have mentioned it before) drill ship Ice Max is due to leave Los Palmas to sail to the Bahamas to start drilling before Christmas. The general opinion is it will rise until drilling, when most with top slice or sell completely. I will sell 80% & then set a tight stop loss as see if I can make back my money from my losses on Val by the end of this week & my other loses by Dec, if it rises to 5.5psp. Higher, as some optimists/rampers suggest may be higher but it's worth remembering just how many shares this has, after repeated dilutions.

Aye, but picking up again. it'll be back to 350p by Christmas IMHO.

Just an update I bought back into 4D Pharma, after an RNS on revealing a proposed JV with an american Venture Capital Company, who will provide finance to further test & develop their medications & get's them jointing listed on the FTSE & NASDAQ. SP has pull ahead strongly & I am 24% up, as long as this deal is confirmed in Nov I will be looking to the long term with this, as I think they really can go far now. I had to sell shares in 3 other companies to raise the money to buy in as my ISA is topped for the year but even taking a loss off £200 selling & paying the charges, I am £500 up. Now wishing I had sold Boo as well! Still going to hold off for now, unless the price drops significantly again, as I don't want to raise my SP Avge too much.

              • Well guess the markets are happy the US Election appears to be sorted. A unique situatiuon for me today., all my stocks are up!
                TRX +6%
                SNG +6%
                BPC +18%
                DDDD + 13%

The latter two were rising anyway, I have recommended BPC before, this should continue to rise until Spudding just before Christmas, when there'll be a lot of profit taking so worth a punt is if you still have some cash free in your ISA. I sold HZM on Thurs to put more into BPC, taking a loss of nearly £500 but hopefully should have regained that by the end of the week, with an RNS due confirming sailing date of the Icemax drilling ship.

                • Grim day today, just a note for anyone in BPC, check out the news about legal challenges & Greenpeace in Los Palmas. HTe general thought is neither will stop drilling but may delay it & the SP has already been falling. I checked out today, whilst I was still in profit. I will buy back in nearer drilling once these obsticules are overcome. With today's profit & the profit I made in August, when I sold then is over £1,600 so it's still my most successful share & hope I will make x2-4 that by Chrimbo.

                  • Well just had a lovely end to my first year of owning a Shares ISA. Having had previous heights of 30% up in June to being 30% down in Sept , still down 28% mid Oct, today I finally turned back into profit, +£13. A modest sum but I admit to getting somewhat worried in Oct that it would take a year ot two to climb back out of that pit.

So I am happy with my current portfolio & will be sticking with them for 2021, when I can put more cash in in April, I'll put some back into some of the stocks & had previously, that have continued to do well. So wishing all followers of this thread a healthy & prosperous New Year & a final tip - HE1, Helium miner IPO 4p, went up to 8p, still around 7p, a good sign of positive confidence in this company IMHO.

                    • I've only got a little one through the Moneybox app but its climbed back into the black with a current return of 1.94% which is a damned sight more than a savings account.

                      • I've had some good luck dipping my your in this year. Put a couple hundred into bitcoin which has lept up 300% and still going... Didn't have the balls to put any more into this game of chance .. or so it still feels! So potentially massive missed opportunity as usual...

Bought a couple of Tesla shares before the split that have done well. But again, nothing to retire on! Still expecting big things from Tesla and EV/energy over next decade! Still holding a little Atlantis Energy stick thanks to this thread.

Down about 20% on silver... This one will be a long bet... Not sure I understand anything in this market, but meager gold and Palladium holdings have done well over 15 years. Bought small into some mining stocks too.

Bank shares are about even again. Waste of space I'm thinking might have to move on... But let's see what next year brings.

20% on the s&p and China indices, not too be repeated I expect. Again not much money.

Few more shares not done much. Hoping to see some recovery next year... More research needed...

Big one I bought into betting on eSports next few years, GFIN. And they've just brought on ex Apple Western Europe general manager. So hoping backing the right horse here...

Likely to consolidate next year to fewer number of companies and put more money in. So lots of research work to do.

This year has been unique and there's lots of talk to a big reset and recession coming...

Wishing everyone a prosperous and healthy future!

                        • Glad it's come back into profit Simon.

I bought a single share in Tesla through Freetrade, it's currently 60% up. Not really fussed about selling it as I think Tesla could be one of those companies that continues to do well.

                          Will keep watching this thread!

I was in and out of Tesla around the 300 mark (pre split) and finally gave up when it just kept dropping every time I bought them. For that reason I've not dare buy back in again... surely theres a big drop coming soon!

I made money on bitcoin in the 2017 bubble, which ultimately left me holding them ever since in the vain hope I'd be in profit. And now here we are 😀 got my stop loss firmly set on that one though!

                            • Agree with Banos, this year has been a very special year on the Stock market. I wished I had been in for a couple of yrs before & then I might have made more, with the crash in March, any stock bought would have gone u double but my biggest mistake was selling & buying too frequently, chasing the best riser. That's why I intend to hold my 5 stocks for 2021, if possible.

                              • SAE up 56% and expect them to do well next year.

BOO up 12% and it won’t be long before they hit £4 again. My hope is they become the new ASOS in years to come.
