    There is no problem with buying from abroad and paying all the appropriate taxes but what is not allowed is discussing and encouraging the avoidance of said taxes in the forum. Does that help?

    I have ordered from abroad and the correct taxes seem to be applied on importation. Why is this a touchy subject? (I also buy most of mine from Gib and stay within my allowance as I'm there often enough to make it my main source). It is not a good source for unusual smokes though...

    The tax in the UK is just stupid.... House prices are out of reach of most people, fuel prices are ridiculous. They tax us all so much that many people can’t afford to live, so the government then have to pay billions in housing benefit, council tax benefit and working tax credit so that “normal” people can survive on a basic wage.

    If they dropped taxes, people would not need working tax credits and this and that… so the government would save billions in the process. People would then have more money and would intern spend it (because we can’t help it ) the government would be making less per purchase, but people would be making more purchases.

    ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    Then the whole national debt thing…. I don’t get this, every country owes billions (but to who?) why don’t each and every country in the world clear all debts, then no country would owe anyone anything, start afresh?????…… why not!

    Nice to see you back on the old revolutionary road Mike

    But in reality taxation on tobacco products will never be reduced, all taxation is a bitch but it will always happen, right now they are debating VAT on food here ...how far down the list of tax breaks do you think cigars are?

    U think they would have learned ? How in gods name can you keep TAXING the piss out of the working man and the few pleasures he has and expext him to ignore it . Then take his hard earned moneys a give it to some free loader with 9 in his family and put 2 cars in their driveway. How long do our governments expect each and every 1 of you to sit back and do nothing.

    4. The rates of duty are:
    • cigarettes: an amount equal to 24 per cent of the retail price plus ?114.31 per thousand cigarettes;
    • cigars: ?173.13 per kilogram;
    • hand-rolling tobacco: ?124.45 per kilogram; and
    • other smoking tobacco and chewing tobacco: ?76.12 per kilogram.

    doesn't sound to bad but you also have to add VAT and Excise duty.

    It's just on the weight of the tobacco. I did find a link to the relevant page in the Customs Officer's guidance manual that said as such. I'll see if I can find it again.

    As I was saying Matt, this is would appear to be an exception, rather than rule. Look
