some UK info
Worth noting that if you bring in over your personal allowance (50 cigars) then you pay duty on the full amount, not just the difference.

I was under the impression that if cigars imported from overseas were declared as such, then customs would charge you relevant tax/duty.Originally posted by cj121 View PostIn terms of importation of tobacco products from overseas and the tax/duty position: my understanding is that the only way this can discharged is by any such monies being paid by the sender (As Deano identified) and not one that can be done this end. Of course there will be stories of 'I know a chap that paid this and that' at the point of entry, but this is an exception, not the rule. HMC/UKBA are also concious of the retail element re profit that is missing from such imports too.
I have had packages declared as cigars and have paid the relevant fees. I have no idea how they work out how much tax/duty is though

Ermm... ahem. Yes. Well....
As we are all of age here and familiar with all the rules and regulations as pertains to and appurtenant with stoughie smocking, the obtaining of same, and the restriction as regards distribution to foreign nationals without first having fulfilled the obligation of filling the national coffers with huge amounts of coin of the realm (either real money [dollars from the US of byghodz A] or that funny munny you Brits call pounds stirling moss), thencefore shall I reproduce here for your enlightenment the dictates regarding the import of see-gars fabrica en ISOM (that would be Island South Of Miami) into the holy territory of the US of byghodz A:

[QUOTE=Boss Hog;61845] how we would go about paying the correct duty and where this can be done?
Thinking about it, it proberbly involves two agencies.
HM Customs & Excise (Duty)
Inland Revenue (VAT)
Sounds like a lot of form filling to me.

It would help, but it won't mean that we can still discuss non UK sites, the risk is just too high.
I think the sender is responsible for this.

[QUOTE=Boss Hog;61845] Hands up who really knows how to do this?
Not a clue Boss. But anyone attempting to Render unto Caesar might just be opening all sort of retrospective cans of worms for themseves!

In that case, can we have thread / sticky on how we would go about paying the correct duty and where this can be done? Hands up who really knows how to do this?
Then there's no confusion you can point newbies here ensuring they read it as part of the signup process.
Watta ya think Deano? Would that give a bit more protection to the forum?
